Skills

General Skills

Professionally, I am a Network Systems Engineer with some specialization in IT Security.

  • I am skilled in Microsoft OS platforms and Cisco Networking, with experience in military and civilian communications technology including some satellite, microwave, and radio transmission systems, as well as broadband Internet access and VoIP systems.
  • I am moderately proficient with small arms (I shoot regularly when possible, and am planning to/have budgeted to attend further training)
  • I have a degree in Network Management with minors in communications and electronics.
  • Partially completed Master's program in International business.
  • I have experience in linguistics and military intelligence (just over 13 years of US Air Force).
  • I have had regular training in first aid and CPR.
  • I participate in Community Emergency Response Team when I am home, and have used the training resources at www.training.fema.gov to become certified in Emergency Management.
  • I can and have worked on gasoline and diesel engines, including a bit with generators.
  • I have worked in a sheet metal fab, but it has been many years since then.
  • I have been a professional cook, and I am considered to be a very good cook at home as well.
  • I have been looking into brewing my own beer, but have not been home (United States) enough in the last two years to proceed with it.
  • I am fairly mechanically apt, but have done enough of it to largely leave mechanical stuff to people who enjoy it more when better uses of my time come along.
  • I am pretty good with home repairs and building things.
  • I know enough about electricity to make things work but I am not knowledgable about building safety code specifics like a licensed electrician would be.
  • I grew up VERY poor so I am better than average at making do with limited resources and innovative solutions, as well as scrounging and "horse trading" for materials and labour.
  • Due to the contrast between my experiences growing up and the military, I have a great appreciation for self-discipline and process in generating repeatably successful results, even tho my natural inclination is to fly by the seat of my pants. (Pun not intended for next point)
  • I am studying for my private pilot's license.
  • I can swim but I am not an especially strong swimmer.
  • Physically, I am in decent shape, probably top 10% in my field, which is not saying much considering I work with a bunch of computer geeks. lol
  • I am very good at social networking in person, and very high in verbal aptitude. My ASVAB composite scores were 98th percentile in all 4 categories.
