 Another Japanese Idea as reported at Times UK online.

The floating eco-rig generators which measure 1.2 miles by 0.5 miles (2km by 800m) are intended to harness the energy of the Sun and wind. They are each expected to produce about 300 megawatt hours of power.

Yeah.  Watt-hours is a unit of energy, not power, so it's kind of impossible to understand what they're trying to say.

Still seems like a nonsense idea. Millions of LED:s shining down into the sea to make the fish happy. What is the point of that?

The japanese with their high tech skills would probably be much better off focusing on nuclear power. If they are afraid of earthquakes there are plenty of inherently safe reactor types to explore.

It makes much more sense to put solar panels on home and business rooftops.  That mostly eliminates the transmission losses; it puts the energy close to its uses.
