Later: ideas; Now: spamfighting

Hi all! I've had the Seasteading web site sitting open in a tab since someone passed me the link a few days ago, but what finally got me to register was that I noticed the wiki -- and that the last umpty-zillion edits seem to be spam.

Fighting wikispam in MediaWiki is something I do. I set up the spam filter for Larry Lessig's wiki and monitor it on a volunteer basis, and would be willing to do that for this wiki too -- or work with whoever has FTP access to the server to get the filter extension solved. (I also do MediaWiki customization up the wazoo.)

I've got a zillion ideas about seasteading itself, but I'll have to get my thoughts organized and come back to that later.

Let me know if I can help with the spam issue. (Also... do you need better hosting? The website seems very sluggish.)

Speaking as someone who is

Speaking as someone who is intensely anti-spam, I think your help would be welcomed.  FWIW the site is sometimes slow for me also.

Slow webite

The website has been extremely slow for about the past three or more days, by far the slowest of my regular sites, and it timed out twice.  Was slightly less sluggish in Firefox than Opera (for most sites Opera is the same or faster.)

Thanks for the offer to help

Thanks for the offer to help with spam: it is quite significant and annoying indeed. I wonder if there arnt any effective out of the box solutions for this?

Also, indeed it seems like hosting is a bottleneck. I bet patri and wayne would be really interested in what you have to offer: take it up with them directly through email id say, in case they miss this post.

Posts caught

I caught the posts and forwarded it to Patri. Patri takes care of the server. I sent both Timothy's and Woozle's comments to Patri via E-mail.

I agree with the website

I agree with the website slowness. It has always been slow for me.

spam

I've forwarded your comment to Joep, who administers the wiki.

The website does seem to be slow on and off, but as it is intermittent it is hard to debug.  We do have a very cheap hosting service, but it would be a pain to move.
