Video on Troll A

Syndicate replies to “Video on Troll A ” topic

This video shows someone going down a leg in "Troll A" to near the sea floor (11 minutes into the video).   They really do have waterproof concrete.  It is 6 feet thick, but they are down further than we plan to go.  The trick was slip-forms so there were no seams in the whole leg.  I  think seastead types will find this video interesting (at least the first 12 minutes  and probably the whole thing).

Very interesting video, as

  • Very interesting video, as advertised :-). The problem with resonance is something that tall, narrow seasteads probably will need to design to avoid.
  • Slipforming looks like a very cheap and fast way to build. However the Troll A doesn´t float, so they wouldn´t need to watch their weight like a floating seastead will. Although I guess you could slipform with lighter materials as well if concrete proves too heavy.
  • The structure of the platform looks like beams of considerable size, whether steel or concrete, when viewed from below. This might be an obvious choice but I hadn´t really pictured any seasteads built like this.
