I think this is important.
Via Slashdot it turns out that Patri's former employer thinks that this Seasteading thing is cool too and wants to take away a huge potential source of income from 'us.'
We need to find an angel to fund a challenge to this patent application.
Upon realizing that our current version of Seasteading was a serious thing I immediately thought of Neal Stephenson's novel Cryptonomicon.
"They see a business opportunity to make some cash in the Philippines, and then see an even better opportunity involving data transfer in that area of the world. A super-rich mini-state (think Brunei) is building the so-called Crypt, a data-haven that will be out of reach of any government interference."

When you file a patent, you are in effect asking your government to use force against others who "infringe" upon it. Ultimately that involves killing.
That said I´m not sure whether they will enforce it in international waters, so maybe we´re safe in this case...
