One can acess Sea Steads by :

Boat

Plane

Ferry

BUT from TransOcean I urge these:

Surface Effectships, US Navy 1970s study.

Hoverships: like those in Channel UK & France only 20X bigger size

Transocean Bridge?

Nuclear Cargo & Passenger subs from Cold War FBM sub types.

Wingship- see Pacific Sea Flight.com , again 10X the size, scaleup.

Cruise ships in use then, Mega cruise ship size aside the medium sized ones

Osprey V22 (civil model).

Hydrofoil Ships?

The Nuclear subs alone would carry 100 passengers @ submerged speeds of 70 knots or better.

The UK Hoverferry at 80 mph.

Wingship-ekranoplane: 450 mph.

Bottom Line: Sea Stead Cityscape.

I think the seaplane or

I think the seaplane or flying boat might be a popular choice for commuters. At least until there are seasteads with runways. Helicopters are expensive to operate and not very efficient for longer trips. The tilt rotor even more so (expensive that is, it´s efficiency is anyone´s guess at this point). Of course landing on the sea depends a lot on the weather, but I´m guessing most seasteads will be located in nice-weather areas anyway.

 While I understand some of

I think it's safe to assume we will never own a nuclear submarine I'm afraid :(

For a while I believe we will be sticking to hiring local boats to shuttle people and items to seasteads near by. Then in the future if seasteading becomes profitable, purchasing more suitable ocean-going crafts and helicopters/seaplanes will become more economically viable.

Hydrofoil boats work are

Hydrofoil boats work are good for low-weight high-value cargo like passengers. There are many such ferries operating around the world, although to start with we want something small and affordable. It becomes less of a problem the more people you have. It would be neat if we could build up some critical mass in for instance the bay area or somesuch, that would greatly ease such scale-dependent problems.

Bring your own!

I think this thread is missing the point! This is a great opportunity for some enterprising individual with a boat or two, to buy a stead, join a sity (read sea-city) and run a ferry service for the other steaders to local ports. Certainly this would be more convenient for the steaders as they could make arrangements en route, and wouldn't have to try to procure the services of a local who may not speak your language.

Although, I suppose if you had a polyglot in your sity, you could hire him to do the negotiating for you... The ocean is just full of opportunities.

Excellent point. In fact

Excellent point. In fact most, if not all, of the services one will need can be supplied by independent operators working for profit.

In fact this is something to contemplate for TSI:s prototype stead: Build an empty platform spar, with nothing inside whatsoever. No wallpaper, no furniture, no electricity, no plumbing or water. Just raw concrete (or whatever material) rooms. Then rent or sell rooms or space to whoever is interested, whether they be service providers, boat operators, plumbers or just adventurous people in general. I´m guessing the end result will be a reasonably functional mix of people and service providers.

Office Space Model

We have seriously thought about an office space model where people just rent space to do whatever they want to do.
