I would think that the best way for people to get along amongst each other would be to have all available information on a seastead/seasteader at their disposal in order to make an informed decision on whether or not to associate or trade with that person.

I could see a sort of “ebay rating” type of system for seasteaders. Where people will be able to go to a web site and enter their thoughts about someone or complaints and the individual will be able to refute complaints that are made. Those who aren’t willing to live within the Non Aggression Principle would find life difficult as people wouldn’t want to deal with them.

Imagine someone pulls up next to your seastead and you enjoy a nice evening with them, but in the morning they’re gone and so are your solar panels…you’d post this on the web page along with the evidence of it and when they start to pull up to other seasteaders, they’d be greeted by the barrel of a gun and told to keep away.

Sure, we all like our privacy, but if you’ve lived in a small community you know that you’re not likely to screw someone over if you know that it’s going to get around town that you’re that type of person. In the big city you can openly go in and rob someone and they may never see you again.

but it’s based on the assumption that people don’t lie or fabricate evidence or just plain lie! There must be ‘due process’…

… and just because old Jimbob spreads nasty rumors about you, your ‘rating’ goes down, when what really happened is you punched his lights out over him hitting on your wife, grabbing her butt and pawing her, all the while drunkenly telling them how they need a ‘real’ man to show ‘em how it’s done… Not such a simple system. How would you rate, with your ex-friends and ex-significant other(s)? As part of the community, they get a say in your rating, especially in a small community.

Elwar, your system sounds similar to other “trust based” systems I’ve heard of before. There are probably numerous proposals for such things, but the only one I’m familiar with is one proposed by another guy on another forum. I haven’t explored it in detail, and the page is rather long and wordy (and not well organized), but I thought I’d link to it anyway. He uses the term “infoliberalism,” although I’m pretty sure what he’s advocating is very far from traditional “liberalism,” much as ancap/libertarianism are far from traditional conservativism. If you have hours on your hands to read through his stuff, you might find it right up your own alley (and I can guarantee he’s gung-ho about getting his idea started).

For a brief summary, the idea seems to be a system that would start of as a simple sort of social networking site based on user’s trust ratings of each other and would evolve into a full scale economic/political system. You can make of that what you will; it isn’t my idea.

Edit: Oh, the guy’s also a French physicist, in case you think I’m linking you to random crazy people.

It’s called an assasination market and it works quite well if people are forced to put their money where their mouth is.

    Can you say, “egocentrism”?

Those people will separate rate themselves out of the rest of us by refusing to deal with others.

Well, even on ebay you get to rebuttle someone’s accusations.

And you’ll be able to see a lifetime of someone’s accusations as well. If they go around trash talking everyone their rating won’t be worth much. Much like ignoring a troll on a message board.

I would most likely have video recording devices all over my seastead.

This idea is a RATING systeming not a VOTING system.

You want to know who you will like dealing with not trying to elect someone president.

That’s called The Netflix Prize… I mean Whuffie
