Hi;
I saw on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hHTuXe1rZrQ&feature=player_detailpage
and there are other youtube videos of him and his designs, and machines.
He calls his machines as animals. He builds autonomous beach roaming robots powered by the wind.
How about building similar structures, just floating ones, and call them platforms?
There is a lot of technical ingenuity out there. And art is there too. And the combination of the two.
.
.
And art, science,technology can be combined with economy, politics, ethics, morality.
One more component to add is spirituality, to make Alchemy.
Interesting from an engineering point of view and impressive but what useful application is there for us?
Roving harvester? plastic from the surface of the gyres, minerals, artifacts, whatever from the ocean floor?
Of course Jansen uses purely mechanical components for artistic reasons. If we used simple computer instead of the mechanical counter he does for navigation we could get machine capable of deciding wht was “interesting” enough to collect.
Anything that powers itself like this is worth looking into.
Hi;
.
Well; I would have liked to continue the thread I started, but I cannot post there after being logged in.
.
.
The concept of an autonomous machine is interesting. Now, if it would build an identical self, that would be artificial life.
OK, well, the autonomous machine, and he builds them of cheap material. And he did build. These are not just plans.
.
.
There is a fine line between plans and actual structures.
.
Well, anyways, instead of lecturing, I will go build something.
I will take pictures.
I don’t know why you would have a problem posting to your original Theo Jansen thread, but I merged your new thread into it.
