I haven’t seen anyone else from lonely old Tennessee, but if anyone out there wants to meet up I would like to find other Seasteaders in my area! I’m currently in Clarksville, a ways outside of Nashville, but just knowing I’m not the only seasteader in the state would be nice.

But, my dad was stationed at Campbell once when I was a teen. Are you stationed there now? Clarksville is one of those lovely landlocked places… But I something with shallow draft could “put to sea” on the Tennessee or Cumberland and get you where you are going.

Nah, not stationed at Ft. Campbell but instead stationed at Austin Peay doing that whole “get my college degree” thing. And with the Scumberland river (as we lovingly call the smelly chasm of hate and filth that flows through our fine city) being so close, it wouldn’t be terribly hard to grab up a boat and go sailin’.

You’re not the only seasteader in TN. I’m currently living in Cookeville for school, but go back to Nashville frequently on weekends. I’d be up for a TN gtg, perhaps we could even consider building something for Ephemerisle (although I’m not sure I’ll be able to make it, since I don’t know anyone right now that could look after my dog, plus its a long way off). There’s plenty of lakes around here, Percy Priest is pretty close, and Center Hill is about a two hours drive from Nashville, plus LBL (which is huge) up on the TN-KY border, not to mention the Cumberland River, and the Harpeth although that’s more of a stream that rarely gets more than a few feet deep. There’s probably a lot of other lakes/rivers too that I’m unfamiliar with.

Anyway, besides all that, nice to know there’s someone else here from middle TN. Welcome to the forum!

I’m just glad to know I’m not the only one crazy enough to think this is a good idea! Thanks for the welcome, by the way. I have some other friends from around here in Clarksville tied to the APSU campus that are interested/might be interested in seasteading, so if I can talk ‘em into it we can try and get something together for Ephemerisle or just grab a boat, sit on a river/lake somewhere, and wax philosophic/politic for a while.

I’m up for it. Unfortunately I don’t know anyone else interested in seasteading (outside of this board), no one I’ve mentioned it to seemed interested.

I haven’t built any models or designs, but to mention some ideas I’ve had, breakwaters made of throw away tires have been discussed (an idea I liked), a solar desalination system shouldn’t be particularly difficult to build, a floating hydroponics/aquaculture/aquaponics/aeroponics system would probably be more difficult but still possible, or just some sort of raft (although I don’t know what the point would be, rafts and boats are already pretty well established). I had put a lot of thought into an ice/pykrete based seastead, and for a while I thought I was onto something good, but I’ve come to the conclusion that the high cost of PV solar panels makes this infeasible (refrigeration systems are pretty expensive too, but not as expensive per volume of ice as the solar panels to power it).

Just throwing those ideas out there, I’d up for non-building stuff gtgs too. Plus I’m inclined to not waste a bunch of money on stuff that doesn’t really have a specific goal or purpose behind it.

Yeah, I’d like to have more a brainstorming session first and I still have to get my friends registered on here and make sure they’re really interested in the whole idea, but I think just a gathering of like-minded seasteaders would be just as spectacular as it would be if we made a platform of plywood and pontoons for Ephemerisle. If nothing else we could, as a group, try and hammer out details for making it to Ephemerisle in October. Send me a personal message or something and I’ll we’ll discuss things more that way (or by, even better, some form of instant messenger). Right now I’m at work and being as counter-productive as possible hahaha.
