The moon is taken… when the race there gets hot most ‘space faring’ countries will bail from the current treaty… particularly the Chinese. Mars is too big.

I’m waiting to see what the Dawn verifies regarding Ceres. If the news is as good as expected most insitu resource problems will be solved.

A few Bigelow habitats, robotics, and and a pioneering spirit will do the rest from the ‘start up’ point of view. Most have no idea how those and some other recent advances will impact the whole ‘insitu’ situation once an easily exploited resource point is acquired… even if it is a bit distant. We have drives now (space only) that can do Mars/Ceres trips in under six weeks, for instance.

The truth is that only when operations can retain a high degree of independence from a variety of political, regulatory, and social constraints will they truly take on a life of their own… just as has been historically true of all frontiers and ‘new worlds’. Distance relative to direct control will ultimately be the deciding factor. Truth is the moon is just too damn close. There will always be those who can and will acquire the means and have the motivation. We simply haven’t identified the ‘perfect target’ yet. It is rapidly coming to a decision point, however.

Near earth operations will be transfer points and mercantile opportunities… infrastructure and enablement for the serious stuff further out. They will provide nothing more regarding financial opportunity, freedom, and survival than current earthbound pursuits. They will be conduits… nothing more. The real future is not buzzing around the earth like a fly on a turd.

Get real? Im very real, they are there I used to believe NASA too. Mars is a possibility but the moon is taken. ETs are up there.

NOTE: I’m speaking as just another forum user, not as a moderator.

You keep saying that, but you haven’t even pretended to offer any evidence. Put up or shut down.

Also there are star-beings that have claim on the moon.

Whatever man. But I did say you need to defend such a claim for it to be valid. The star-beings can claim the moon all they want. Until they have bases (made out of physical matter that we can all see, not pixie dust and fairy farts) and they homestead the area they claim then it’s meaningless.

Sorry, I don’t have to time to watch an hour-plus YouTube video right now. I have to head back to work in about ten minutes.

But I can say without having watched it that I’m not personally inclined to give a whole lot of weight to a YouTube video as evidence of anything that contradicts common sense.

That movie is based off of factual evidence from NASA itself, and so what if its on youtube, so everything on youtube is fake? And you should take the time to watch it because other wise you won’t have much of a clue as to what you are talking about, I didn’t even believe we landed on the moon until this video and a few others I had watched. The moon is taken, its fully hollow actually, why do you think we never went back?

We went back a few times I doubt we spent all that money to pick up some rocks.

I had a beautiful flaming reply put together, targeting Sickor’s post point for point, but it died in refresh so I’ll have to satisfy myself with this…

You’re a freaking moron, and nobody will ever take you seriously.

First, your image link is busted. It appears to be pointing on to a file on a system local to you.

Second (responding to some previous posts by you and Sickor), I never said that everything on YouTube is fake. But it is easy to fake things on YouTube (and TV programs and movies).

Third, I also never said that I wasn’t going to watch the video. But I won’t have time until the weekend at the earliest.

Simian – u say that Earth orbit is good. is that better than an Earth trailing orbit around the sun? i think quadrillions of people could live in such an orbit. the habitats would not need to be heated or cooled at all, because at the right distance from the sun the temp is a perfect 70 deg all the time. maybe it costs a lot more to get there?

Yes, I’m sure there’s more than enough room for quadrillions of humans within Earth’s orbit. If you’re talking specifically about the Earth-sun L5 point then I’m not as sure about the amount of space for comfortable living. There are limiting factors like availability of resources though that make it more attractive to settle in the outer solar system. Moving the stuff to support insane numbers of people to our area around the sun takes an insane amount of energy. If we expand human industrial civilization to the other planets and smaller bodies like those of the asteroid belt, Trojan asteroids and comets, and the objects of the Oort Cloud, then I think we’ll reach past quadrillions of people easily.

    left my wallet on Enceladus.
