tomohern | Coming from Seattle where there are a lot of floating homes, seeing modern architecture designs that float isn’t really too exciting. I think for the time being we are at a point where function is a bit more important than form. Once a reliable open ocean floating platform is created we can put all the fancy housing on top that we want. |

Tholan | People will actually be living on these things for long times (or short times). They should look more like home and less like a prison colony. I am sure some people get a rush of blood to the head over the Sealand Tower, but if I had to live on that lfeless platform I would be inclined to open a vien. A colleague of mine one mentioned a study by NASA for the long term space station plans. They brought in architects and applied social psychologists and discovered that the engineers and planners had laid out the space station in the most depressing way possible. We should work to make sure that whatever we design (in general), we remember that people will live on it for years without seeing trees and other vegetation. Whether you hold that we are derived from monkeys or from the divine, the fact remains we are biologically designed to live in a place with green leafy things. |

i_is_j_smith | There is no reason why the seasteads need to be sterile platforms of cold steel and ferrocement. There should be plenty of room for gardens, both ornamental and functional. Plus, I plan to have a feng shui expert give mine the once over….  |

Yeah I took the boat tour on lake Washington some time back, those homes did not look all to appealing to me (the mansions on solid ground though … *moan*) Do note that we will need some fancy snapshots to attract tourists or new inhabitants. |
Zach | I really like the first house the link has. Some of the others are nice looking, but arent really what i think of when i think “seasteads”. Actually none of them scream seastead to me, but kind of nifty nonetheless. like some others have mentioned, probably wouldnt last long in the ocean, but they look nice on lakes and whatnot. thanks for posting this =) |
elspru | ya, they are pretty, especially the last one, I like the scenery, it’s breathtaking. However these aren’t seaworthy homes. The Octopod is a modular and seaworthy home. if made with structural steel and concrete, oceanworthy, if made by non-profit then affordable. can probably have vegetation on the roof, or top floor. with several (4) put together, can fill in the roof tops with soil, and even have some trees. Agreed, the octopod hasn’t been built yet, planning on making a model this week. I support these pictures of homes, it’s great to see homes on the water. |
