A couple of months ago i started researching deeply about pitcairn islands political status etc… After that i tried to find details on Bir Tawil region… Most of my research was for fun, and for my interest in micronations. I also spent some time on island leases and related laws in some countries. Conclusion of my research was the only terra nullius with a chance to create a brand new country was Bir Tawil though since it carries great risk of intervention it would require an insane amount of capital and diplomatic effort… Still its actually quite doable for a billionare if he/she really focuses on the topic… It may actually be insanely profitable too especially for such people focusing on banking and gambling. Anyways after i crossed out Bir Tawil i spent some time thinking about Minerva. It was my mid-high school dream to create a self sustaining island nation. Since i was addicted to playing fallout-fallout 2 i was mostly focusing on vault desings, a single gargantuan building constructed inside islands, underwater mountains… I was researching about kelp farming n other types of nutrient underwater products’ production methods, attempts on generating energy from underwater waves and orthodox hydroelectricity, megabuilding ventilation systems so on… As a lover of rpg i had quite alot of experience in dungeon mastering, and i was especially in love with Alternity campaigns. I was using my own designs and designs i found over net as reference in my games, but since my fellow player friends were freaks (2 architects, 1 captain n nautical expert, 1 dutch emissary, 1 ship engineer, 1 metallurgy-geology expert) i had to give it my best to make the game realistic as possible, it really becomes weird when your player constructs a house/ship ingame, and designs it in detail usin 3dmax n maya or gets u sample alloys and raw ores right from his workplace. Ehh…i guess i m a bit off from my point anyways i really love to think about alternate societies. And i found seasteading institute intriguing. Though i was a bit dissapointed in various ways since it was too realistic due to low funds, I hope you guys can manage to incease your funds in near future and be able to create more futuristic concepts… e.g. I’m sick of living between concrete walls, its been 2400 years since carthage started using modern concrete and we are still using it as the primary construction component. For stuff i can and can not do please look at my profile and if your further interested simply pm me…October 10, 2009 at 8:27 am #8102
Greetings Shouri. Sorry we’re not as sci-fi as you’d hoped. I wish we were too, but we’ve got to take things one step at a time. And the first step is getting on the water to begin with.

Hello U., interesting post and profile.
Bir Tawil? I recall reading that neither the Sudanese nor the Egyptians want it. There is probably a good reason for that. I’ll check it out via Google Earth.
Anyway, good luck, man.October 10, 2009 at 12:45 pm #8108
The reason neither the Sudan nor Egypt claim Bir Tawil looks to be purely political; an issue of diplomacy. And that could easily change with time.
This area would probably be claimed as part of Palestine under Arafat’s 1988 declaration.
The Kingdom of Finismund has supposedly laid claim to the area, but they seem to be just fantasy roleplayers.Shouri wrote:

Yes, I feel you! And I can identify with much of your experience: thinking, dreaming, fantasizing over the years. Now I’m very much into doing. Actually, I would have preferred that before, but there were some obstacles to deal with.October 10, 2009 at 12:57 pm #8109
Yeah really hard obstacles tbh. Primarily funding, it requires really alot of ambition and effort to create an island nation but seriously if i was michael oliver i dont think i would fail in the way he did, all that money such a waste, 100$ seems good enough to start with such a project, failing with such funds is unforgivableOctober 10, 2009 at 1:44 pm #8110
Sea stead of my dream (little detail)
A seastead&island nation in the middle of an ocean (like: great meteor tablemount, middle between hawaii and kiribati, or middle of indian ocean) At first there will be a permanent center piece, to serve as a dock, workshop, warehouse, offices… preferably in the middle of a large natural breakwater. Primary income of the seastead will be info. tech.; as the colony grows, medical supplies, (like keroten, and daily vitamin&nutrient pills, and perhaps some herbal medicine for cosmetic use) algae cultivation, fish&shrimp cultivation (and processing them) will be added to colonies main income. With high tech installations in near future many eco friendly heavy industry may be added to this list.
As for its government, a system like oligarchy-monarchy based on aristocracy would work fine i guess, representatives from companies in the seastead and certain gifted well educated people perhaps… e.g. Representatives: Mercanary Corporation owner, Medical Research&Industry Corporation owner, Geology&Metallurgy experts, Botanists… (Any scienctist with studies focusing on stuff related to our subject: ecology, botany, zoology, recycle, biology, medicine, programming, architecture, engineering of almost any sorts etc etc), Software Corporation Owner, Law&International Law,Relations experts so on… Also if a president, monarch or such is needed as the head of the state it would most probably be a philospher, thinker kind who strongly believes in ideals of the nation and his/her debative skills and knowledge of modern economy must be exceptional…
Policy: Every bit of the seastead belongs to goverment. Government is a council, a union of subject corporations and their staff, leaded by a charismatic individual with a noble ideology. He/she thinks himself as the protector, father/mother of the nation thus acts only on his nations benefit. Defence is mercanary corporations responsibility, Healthcare is medical corporations responsibility etc.
if you wanna hear more about ‘Orb Union’ (named after a fantasy nation, Orb Union/ Gundam Seed [Japanese Mecha Anime]) just pm me and i ll open a thread about ‘dreamsteads’ or pm me n tell me if already such thread exists.October 10, 2009 at 7:47 pm #8123
Heya Shouri, seems we’ve got our eyes on the same geographic locations i.e. Indian Ocean. =)
And it’s nice to see another Fallout fan here =)October 10, 2009 at 7:58 pm #8124
hey xns, i dont specifacally look for indian ocean there are few places around the globe to construct something major tho and it would be really nice if there is a suitable place on Nikitin Seamount south os sri lanka, though Vitória-Trindade Seamounts seems a more ideal place, as well as Great Meteor Tablemount, closer to land, but out of their EEZ… But my seasteading colony concept focuses on legal mercenary services and ifrormation technologies, so indian ocean will be a perfect spot, since its closer to software giant india, and closer to warzones when compared to other suitable locations.
Nice to see you as well, i m browsing the forum a bit more than i should since there is alot of stuff to read aroundOctober 10, 2009 at 11:29 pm #8127
Btw xns, you arent actually planning to get your hands on a maldive lagoon right? if anyone manages such thing it would really be worthier than buying an island+manor at pacific… you can get your hands on a really well established island+manor for a bit more than 10mils in pacific, and there are really cheaper ones too, but mostly they belong to countries with big guns which wont let you have nuff autonomy… but maldives on the otherhand might actually sell a remote lagoon for a good deal i guess, though the price can be …astronomic…October 12, 2009 at 5:06 am #8156
You might notice that my sig doesn’t refer to an existing island or nation :p So no, the existing island thing is off the table. Partly for the reasons you mentioned, but more because of rising sea levels and a lack of expandability. That and the cool factor of building it myself :p
