My name is Karactus (rhymes with “practice”…kind of), but most call me Karac (it rhymes with Eric). I am a student, philosopher, and the author of two published books. I look forward to sharing my ideas with you all.

Hmm. I am trying to upload a picture for my profile so that you will all have a face to associate my name with, but it keeps telling me that the file must be a JPG, GIF, or PNG. I checked the file, and it is a JPG; it should not have been rejected for its file type. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Unfortunately the only configuration settings I could find is whether or not registered users are allowed to upload avatars. It did not provide any additional information, not even the list of file types that appears on the Change Avatar page.

The only thing that comes to mind at the moment is if the file extension says that it is a JPG but the actual image type in the file is actually something else???

Is there a limit to the size of the picture? Does it need to be a certain size?

I can’t find any official documentation on avatar sizes even on the BuddyPress website. Unofficial documentation on third-party websites indicates that the default size for a full-size avatar is 150×150 pixels (and will be thumbnailed to 50×50 pixels).
