Earlier this summer I went to open-mic a few times, and people liked my performances. So there is some potential that people will contribute to my alms basket.
I have $1,840 in savings , I’m hoping on getting at least $700 more to buy yacht for $2,500. Technically after that I still have to get deep-anchors (20m) $1000, and canal-fee $200, though those could wait.
So my repetoire consists of meditating/blessing (monk), being a pirate (living statue/re-enactment), singing/playing-instrument (music) and tarot/palmistry/aura-reading/magick-spells (psychic).
I’m thinking of having a billboard with the boat picture and a thermometer of funds, probably also one with a list of stuff I could do with adjacent values.
Later on, once I have a boat on the water, could offer sailboat rides and stuff, but while I’m still on the dry, this seems like one of the few avenues available.
I’ve considered, and even done some freelance online computer programming, though it’s mind-intensive and usually has little pay. I also figure I could benefit more people’s lives by singing blessings in the street.
Today I bought an alms basket, or rather a plastic witch’s couldron from the dollar-stores halloween section. I’ve also been working on text documents and spreadsheets to post on billboard. Might even hand-out/sell various We You Net paraphenalia or documents.
Anyhow, if anyone has any opinions or experience in the matter, please feel free to contribute.
“itinerant entertainer,” 1857, from busk (v.) “to offer goods for sale only in bars and taprooms,” 1851 (in Mayhew), perhaps from busk “to cruise as a pirate,” which was used in a figurative sense by 1841, in reference to people living shifless and peripatetic lives. The nautical term is attested from 1660s (in a general sense of “to tack, to beat to windward”), apparently from obs. Fr. busquer “to shift, filch, prowl,” which is related to It. buscare “to filch, prowl,” Sp. buscar (from O.Sp. boscar), perhaps originally from bosco “wood” (see bush), with a hunting notion of “beating a wood” to flush game. Busker has been mistakenly derived from buskin in the stage sense.
It’s something screwy in the way the security works. I’ve previously reviewed the security flags and it looks to me like users should either be able both to edit and delete, or not be able to do either. But that’s not the way it actually works.
If you want a post deleted, edit to it to say just “Please delete this” or something to that effect and I (or one of the other people authorized to do so) will delete it for you.
