Afkate is a spambot generating dozens of posts which are irrelevant. pointless and wasting our time. It’s membership should be cancelled and all it’s posts deleted. |

I tried. I sent a message to ‘admin’… Obviously, they have more important things to do. Later, J.L.F. Never be afraid to try something new… Remember, amateurs built the ark, professionals built the Titanic. |

Sent a PM directly to Patri last week. No response yet. I’m surprised TSI doesn’t have someone who monitors the site for these kinds of issues. (nevermind keeping flaming posts to a minimum) Live Well! -Jason |

I have been catching up on posts and have found two in the last half-hour. We need some method of forum control. For instance, being able to mark a thread as spam so others may see and the admin can get rid of them (if he can be bothered). |

New spammer “anonymous” is afkate as posts are identical, this forum clearly needs stronger defences against spambots. |

afkate shows as anonymous because someone zapped the profile. Probably Patri because I’ve been in contact with James and he didn’t say that he did it. I’ve been the volunteer spam killer on the TSI wiki for over a year, but not here because there were other volunteers doing it. But they seem to have all disappeared. James has approved my offer to be a spam killer here. I’m just waiting for the proper authorities to be granted. Then I’ll clean up the aftermath of afkate and will also be watching for new spam. |

I killed a bunch of spam posts today, but unfortunately I cannot delete posts that open a thread…only posts on an existing thread. I assume a higher-level admin must do that. |

Thanks guys. It had briefly gotten to where a significant percentage of posts were just spam, which really discourages one from bothering to keep up. And I usually have a high tolerance for such nuisances. FYI, they also go back and post spam messages on the old blog posts, even the ones that are months old. Although these don’t waste our time by making us click on and scroll through a thread just to see the “new post” was spam. |

It appears that the forum software doesn’t allow the first post to be deleted(?). _If_ you have a View and Edit selection to the right of the subject, you can click Edit, then there is a delete button at the bottom. That deletes the entire thread, not just that one message. Generally if there are any replies, they would just be a response to the presence of the spam, so deleting the thread would be okay. If there is some reason why the whole thread should not be deleted, it looks like the only option is to edit that first post to remove the spam content. But there seems to be some kind of forum-specific settings. I don’t have the View / Edit selections in all forums. I’m still working with Eric to see what the deal is. |

Eric changed the actual forum configurations for the forums where I didn’t have the View / Edit selections. So I think anyone who has the View / Edit selections in any forums should now have them in all forums. |
