Well, maybe not novel or new (after all ORNL made these reactors 50 years ago). Would you be interested in nuclear if it was safe, 200x more efficient than current nuclear technology, proliferation safe, and fueled by an extremely common/abundant fuel? I am talking about the Liquid Fluoride Thorium Reactor (LFTR). I will post some links below and where you can find further information but this new technology would certainly fit in a self-reliant sea-based society. (After all isn’t it the nuclear reactors that make the current floating cities possible for the US Navy?)

With an abundance of energy a true society would be possible where we could test and prove self-reliance concepts. I have read other threads that suggested nuclear reactors would not be permissible in the hands of non-government entities. However if the design is made and proven to be proliferation safe it may be possible to ‘purchase’ one for use in SeaSteading.
