If you intend to to try to distill water that you know is polluted with chemicals, heavy metals and the like, then you're right: a solar distiller wouldn't be the way to go. On the other hand I wouldn't even try to distill polluted water unless I were a chemical engineer or had specific training in dealing with things like that. You could die or worse: kill other people.
