The Seasteading 2009 Conference was held at the Cathedral Hill Hotel in San Francisco. Featured speakers included executive director Patri Friedman, philanthropist and investor Peter Thiel, education pioneer Michael Strong, and economist David Friedman.
The Seasteading Institute joined Reason Magazine on a a seven-day Caribbean cruise aboard the Solstice, Celebrity Cruises’ beautiful luxury liner. Featured speakers included executive director Patri Friedman, author Matt Ridley, and Reason writers Nick Gillespie and Ronald Bailey.
The Future of Free Cities Conference took place on the tropical island of Roatán in Honduras. This event brought together leaders from different fields and countries for a series of high-level discussions about free cities–how they can emerge, and how they can lead to a better world.
Michael Keenan presented seasteading to an eclectic group of futurists, activists and counter-culturalists at the Extreme Futurist Fest in Los Angeles, focusing on why the world needs a new startup sector for governance.
Michael Keenan will present seasteading at the Dipsea Cafe in Mill Valley, California, at 4pm. He will be making the case for working to establish new countries in international waters as a viable and necessary supplement to engaging in traditional political activism. He will also talk about the the ways that remaining challenges related to homesteading the high seas are being broken down into incremental, realistic goals.
Michael Keenan will present seasteading to the UC Berkeley SFL group at 7pm in 87 Evans Hall. He will inform students on opportunities to further our mission while simultaneously satisfying graduation requirements. We recently launched a new “Students” section of our website that shows students how to craft research proposals and navigate their schools’ independent study requirements, to enable them to tackle practical questions facing early seasteading ventures in exchange for school credit.
Following Peter Thiel’s keynote address on February 17th, Michael Keenan promoted our new volunteer research program for students to the largest gathering of young liberty activists ever held.
The Seasteading Institute is sponsoring the 2012 BIL conference, a community-sponsored event featuring talks by some of the most interesting figures from a wide variety of fields, including technology, D.I.Y biology, life extension, social change and open hardware hacking. The event will be held on the historic Queen Mary in Long Beach, CA, and will be open to the public.
